The Historic Apple Orchard

The older apple and cherry trees in the North end of Martha Washington Park are likely from the days when the site was the Martha Washington School for Girls.    Unfortunately the orchard was not maintained after the city took over the property and Many of the trees are overgrown and too tall to conveniently pick.

In the last few years Jim Kramer led an effort to prune and rejuvenate the trees and also plant new trees but no longer has time for this project.

In October of 2012 a Cider Pressing event was held and apples from the orchard were converted to delicious apple cider.  Unfortunately, the crops from 2013 through 2015 were poor and no event could be held. If you would like to help rejuvenate the orchard, email perasso@cruzio.com.

Recently planted pear and apple trees.
